Daddy- Daughter Adventures

So if you know me, I am a hardcore daddy's girl. My daddy is my dude, my best friend, and, the greatest of all, my father. My dad is an Over-The-Road Driver, meaning he transports material over long distances.

Although my daddy is an Over-The-Road Driver, he never allowed that to stop him from having a relationship with us. He was and is always a phone call away. Many of the meals I know how to cook are because my dad talked me through cooking those meals over the phone.

As I was in Louisiana for a dual celebration, instead of flying back, my dad offered me to catch a ride with him, and I took the opportunity to ride with pops!

My sister, mom, and I would take trips to Oklahoma in the big truck to and from Baton Rouge as little girls. On this trip, I slept, talked about wedding things, listened to tunes representing our generation, and I took this time to interview him.

Me: What does being a Kingsskid mean to you?

Daddy: Well, it gives me an identity of who I am. It's a part of my existence. I am somebody. I am also a part of a unique group of people who are Kingsskid.

Me: Daddy, you've been in this trucking industry for over 20 years; how has your definition of success evolved?

Daddy: It has evolved tremendously; it brought a great deal of knowledge and wisdom, learning about different cultures and people. Navigating the country allowed me to support my family and siblings. I can look back over the years to see where I come from to where I am now.

Me: When you started, what was your definition of success

Dad: To support my family, which I have accomplished

Me: Now, 25 years later, what's your definition of success

Daddy: All of my children have finished school; that alone is a blessing; all of my children have given me credit for their success. The other part of success is getting them out of my pockets.

Me: How do you continue to keep your skills relevant amid self-driving trucks

Daddy: Continuously being safe and observant, self-driving trucks will be able to deal with traffic and weather conditions, but there are certain things that they can't do the human touch( there is a specific communication that truck drivers have amongst each other to keep each other safe- computerized trucks will not be able to do those things )

Me: How have you been able to maintain your career and family

Daddy: Whew, that's truly by the grace of God. It allowed me to have the patience and understanding to have the diligence to be a man.

Me: What advice do you have for people torn between building a career or building a family?

Daddy: You must let God prioritize your life for you. God will put it in the divine order he wants, and you will succeed.

Me: Any additional comments?

Daddy: I am grateful for my daughter, who started the blog, allowing him to put it in his divine order.

My daddy is a cool dude. He pushed us to follow our dreams and to see the world beyond Baton Rouge, Louisiana. With his profession ( and with the help of our mothers), he has been able to assist seven children in receiving some post-secondary education. He is one that continuously crowns me with jewels of knowledge and wisdom. He's never one to do it for the gram, and he does it because it's coming from the bottom of his heart.
