My Locs Growth Journey: Year 1 vs. Year 3
Scripture:
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." – Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
As I reflect on the growth of my locs, I can’t help but see parallels between their journey and my own personal and spiritual growth. In year one, my locs were in their beginning stages—frizzy, unruly, and requiring constant care . Similarly, things often feel messy and unpredictable in the early stages of spiritual growth. You’re sowing seeds, trying to form habits, but you don’t yet see the full fruit of your efforts.
Year 1: The Beginning – Patience and Perseverance
When I first started my locs, I was excited and had predecided that I would not have an ugly stage. My locs were not fully formed. This mirrors the early stages of growth in any area of life, whether it's in our faith, relationships, or personal goals. The process can feel slow.
In year one of spiritual growth, we often have to fight impatience. We may not see immediate results, and the progress can be hidden. But just as my locs needed time to mature, our spiritual growth requires patience. Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary, for in due season, we will see the harvest if we don’t give up.
Year 3: Maturity and Flourishing
By year three, my locs had matured. They were longer, healthier, and more defined. The transformation was undeniable. It wasn’t just about their appearance; the time, care, and patience I invested in them were now clearly visible. They were flourishing in ways I could only imagine in year one.
Likewise, in our spiritual lives, after seasons of faithfulness and growth, we start to see maturity. The lessons we once struggled with become second nature. Our relationship with God deepens, and we experience a greater sense of peace, purpose, and clarity. What once felt difficult or uncertain begins to align, and we see the fruit of our perseverance.
The Process: Growth Takes Time
The growth of my locs from year one to year three is a powerful reminder that transformation is a process. There are no shortcuts to spiritual growth, just as there were no shortcuts in my hair journey. It requires consistency, care, and trust in God’s timing. Each stage is necessary for the next.
In the same way, God works in our lives. In the early stages, things may feel chaotic, but God is forming something beautiful beneath the surface. As we continue to nurture our faith, stay connected to Him, and trust the process, we will eventually see the maturity and flourishing He promises
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being patient with us and for the growth You bring in Your timing. Help us to remain faithful in the process, trusting that You are doing good works within us. May we see Your hand in each stage of our journey and give You glory for every step of progress. Amen.
