Did You Get The Memo?

Greetings Royal Court,

Minda Harts, Author of The Memo, inspired me to write this blog

Many things resonated with me in her book; in this season of my life, the part that resonated with me the most was developing a Top 8; she explained, "you should develop a Top 8 internally corporate spaces and externally outside of corporate spaces. As Minda stated, you need communities of people working on your behalf on both sides of life."

Now, if you remember Top 8 concept was introduced on MySpae when we had to post our people that meant the most for me; you know the Top 8 feature could make or break relationships.

As I was reading her book, I wrote down people's names in my Top 8 and thought about the steps I took to develop my Top 8 as my Board of Directors.

Board of Directors - Board members are the fiduciaries who steer the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies and ensuring the nonprofit has adequate resources to advance its mission.

Your Personal Board of Directors - Board members are the fiduciaries who steer you toward a sustainable future by creating spaces for you to practice and providing sound and honest advice, and make sure you have training and development to advance your life mission.

My board consisted of individuals who:

  1. Help me Connect What was Going on Spiritually and Physically-I realized that my job journey was spiritual as much as it was physical. The spiritual was that God was pruning my heart of the competition, comparison, and entitlement; he wanted to give me the career that I had longed for but wanted to make sure when I got it, I would be in a position of praise and that I wouldn't take his credit. The physical aspect of the journey was constant rejection.

  2. Experts to Help Me Navigate my Lay -Off, Career Searching Amid a Pandemic-These were individuals who had been laid-off before or individuals where they work was affected by crises previously. Having their perspective was a light at the end of the tunnel. They guided me in love, comforted me, and acknowledged my emotions, providing practical strategies for me to implement.

  3. Working in Different Industries- the diversity of working in various industries allowed me to understand each sector's nuances to which I applied.

  4. Created Spaces For Me To Cultivate My Kkills-they were experts, movers, and shakers in their own right. They created spaces for me to thrive, learn, and grow. One of my board members invited me to attend training, another helped me understand unspoken words in interviews, and another helped me prepare for interviews.

In reading Minda's book, I realized that I needed to be more intentional in developing my internal board.

Let me know, do you have a Top 8 internally and externally? Yes or No?
