Meet the World's Best Communicator
June is known as Effective Communications Month.
Communication has always been a vital component of relationships personally and professionally; when communication isn't clear, it confuses, and distraught, and ultimately impacts your brand.
The excellent news is we know someone who's the most incredible communicator of all time. His name is Jesus. As I reread Mary and Martha, I looked into how Jesus communicated between the two sisters and how we can apply his teachings to our lives personally and professionally.
At the Home of Martha and Mary
Luke 10: 38-40
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"
Jewel 1:Met Mary where she was: Jesus was sitting, and Mary was at his feet; they both were placed seated. He sat to teach, and she sat to receive what the teacher was teaching.
Jewel 2: Your tone can calm or bring chaos to the environment. Martha was frustrated with her sister because her sister wasn't helping her prepare a meal. When she approached Jesus in her frustration, he provided a perspective that made what and how he delivered his message more straightforward to be received.
Jewel 3: Communication isn't one size fits all. Jesus shows us that no one communication style fits all. Mary and Martha both were able to receive the message in his teaching and correction.
CROWNED to Action (CTA):
Pause: this is by far the hardest yet the most powerful. The power of pause allows you to communicate in a manner that is respectful and in love. I use to be a hot head and say everything that comes to mind, and it caused many problems, but when I pause, I think before I allow the words to leave my mouth, there is a better chance of better results.
Ask the individual the best way to communicate with him: this is key to incredibly personal and professional relationships. Often we communicate and express communication to others in the way we like to be communicated with, not how they can receive it. I have friends that I can call, and we talk every week or two weeks. I do have friends that I can text every two months, and that's fine. Although the styles of communication styles are different, they are not diminished.
Focus on the outcome you want to receive, not your feelings at the moment. When we focus on the outcome we desire; this allows us to approach the individual to yield better fruit. Let me be clear we won't always get the desired result right away. The goal is to be consistent in delivering our messages because it's where you grow, and honestly, outcomes last longer than feelings.
Jesus was consistent in his overall message, and he is still trying to get some of us to act right on this side of heaven. God's overall outcome for sending Jesus for us to have eternal life had to overrule Jesus suffering on the cross.
In this one moment, be accommodated both Mary and Martha. Luke 10:41-42
41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken aw
