What Are You Chasing?
The day after my fiance's birthday we celebrated his 10th Anniversary on his job. His company is one of the most LUV'd in the nation. His company throws big parties to recognize people that have been with the company for 10, 20, 30 years!
Here's the thing -you don't hear about people staying with companies that long, however, the average tenure for 2018 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics is about 4.2 years.
As I watched in awe of his and his co-hearts from all over the nation get celebrated it was amazing. I recall him and I recently had a conversation about his job and he said " I love my job," and I responded, " I love your job too." What I love the most about observing Ed is the fact that Ed is fulfilling his purpose in his career, his purpose is to be the light, encourager, he has patience and he has a smile and heart that makes everyone feel as though they are LUV.
The biggest lesson I learn daily from Ed, especially since he is established in his career, is the fact that it's not about the title or money. When he started in his current role, he was approached in less than three months about a management role, and he turned the role down, he turned the role down because he wanted to learn and maximize his gifts in his current role. He wasn't moved by the title of a new role, he was moved my maximizing and expanding his gifts. At the time he told me this, I was surprised because I would have taken the role with the title, but speaking with Ed in regards to that he told me it wasn't about the title, it was about learning, having fun, and Luvin what you do.
He has inspired me not to take roles because of the titles but to take roles that would allow my life's work to show up in my daily work. Ed can have fun at what he does, he can be the encourages the person that uplifts others, motivate others, be the light that God has called him to be.
Let me ask you something what are you chasing?
Are you chasing a title?
Are you chasing a career?
Are you chasing the money?
Are you chasing fame?
Are you chasing the place that will allow you to discover and maximize your gifts?
Are you chasing the place that will allow you to pursue your life work?
After speaking with Ed and reflecting over the years I have learned to be more intentional about what I am chasing if it does not align with my God-given assignment, I don't want any parts of it!
